     Job Title: Critical Care Transport Nurse                                                            

    Status: Non-Exempt -  Per Diem **Nights**

     

    SUMMARY

     The Critical Care Transport Nurse performs basic life support, advance life support and critical care nursing. The CCT Transport Nurse provides direct patient care to the ill and injured during the transport and the local EMS transport and treatment protocols. The CCT Transport Nurse functions under standing orders of the physician or the medical director. The CCT Transport Nurse performs assessments, treats, and monitors patients during inter-facility transports.

     

     

    STRATEGIC CHALLENGES

     

    The Nurse is frequently the first or second contact with whom AMR’s customers, especially patients, have interaction. As a result, the Nurse must be responsive and adaptable to meet customers’ expectations. The Nurse must adapt to the changes in scope of delivery and practices. This may require adapting to new delivery protocols, or training curriculum to maintain certification.

     

    An increasing challenge is adapting to the changing nature of healthcare delivery in the United States. With healthcare reform, regulatory changes, and changing reimbursement, the Nurse profession is evolving. The Nurse must recognize that an expansion of his/her role is necessary to meet the needs of those individuals served. The role now expands beyond the foundational work of providing compassionate and clinically competent care. The Nurse must consider the use of appropriate facilities and understand the reimbursement structure in order to transport the patient to the right facility and ensure payment. The end result decreases customer stress, avoids care delays due to reimbursement constraints, eliminates unnecessary multiple patient transports, and increases customer satisfaction. Growing economic pressures also require the Nurse to think of his/her actions and there financial impact.

     

    The Nurse is often the focal point for interaction with the fire department and other service providers, as well as other responding agencies, such as the police department. To provide successful response, all agency personnel must work together.

     

    In addition, the delivery of care is often provided to individuals who are afraid or even panicked. Further, service delivery is being provided in communities with increasingly diverse cultural populations.

     

    Finally, changing technology requires the Nurse to keep up-to-date with new ways of communicating, documenting and reporting.

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS

    Key Internal Customers and Suppliers

     

    • The key relationship for the Nurse is his/her partner, who may be Paramedic or an EMT
    • The second key relationship for the Nurse is with the Communications Center Professional who provides them the information they need to respond to calls successfully
    • The Nurse works with field supervisors who provide support and guidance on how to perform at his/her best
    • The Nurse interacts with clinical personnel to grow and stay abreast of the current clinical demands in the medical field
    • The Nurse interacts daily with fleet and materials management personnel to ensure the unit is running properly and stocked appropriately
    • The Nurse interacts with peers and colleagues regularly to share experiences and best practices
    • The Nurse works with representatives of the human resources function regarding employment concerns
    • The Nurse works with the operations personnel responsible for scheduling
    • The Nurse works with the medical director for on-line, off-line, and concurrent medical control

    • The paramount relationship for the Nurse is with the patient and his/her loved ones, who need assurance and compassion, as well as medical care
    • The Nurse works regularly with facility staff, that are responsible for receiving patients, providing medical control or direction, and/or preparing patients for transport
    • The Nurse partners with fire, police and other agencies during emergency calls to ensure safe, efficient actions are taken
    • The Nurse has regular contact with the public at large during calls and may also interact with government/regulatory agencies and the media. In these situations, the Nurse must demonstrate the appropriate image of AMR

    Responsible for adapting to the changing nature of healthcare, customer’s expectations, adapting to new delivery protocols, interaction with the medical centers, hospitals, and physicians and other service providers and other ancillary EMS agencies, and new ways of communicating, documenting and reporting

    NONESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

     

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Current registration as an RN/EMS
    • Minimum 5 years Emergency Department/Critical Care Experiences
    • Minimum 5 years MICN experience
    • Current ACLS, PALS, PHTLS Certification
    • Current CPR certification
    • Valid Drivers License
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent inter-personal skills
    • Driving record in compliance with AMR policy regarding insurability

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Current critical care inter-facility transfer experience; CEN, CCRN, TNCC or ENC Certification; BTLS/PHTLS

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

     

    • Occasionally: Smelling 
    • Frequently: Kneeling, stooping, bending, leaning, flexibility, and multiple physical activities performed at the same time (carrying multiple equipment while pushing on pram) 
    • Constantly: Hearing/listening, clear speech, simple touching, walking (inside and outside), pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, driving ambulance, seeing
