The following paperwork must be turned in prior to or on the first day of class:
Prior medical experience or agency sponsorship is not required for this course. However, this is a knowledge and skill intensive class, and some may find it easier with prior anatomy and physiology or medical terminology familiarity. If you are considering purchasing any type of EMT-related materials prior to class, please ensure that it is current with the 2010 National Standards.
Please note that successful completion of this course does not guarantee a position as an EMT at AMR. Any interested students may apply for a position via our website at AMR.net.
The cost of the course is around $1,625 (subject to change). This includes the background check, a textbook, a testing app, 2 uniform T-shirts, 1 polo shirt, an ID badge, and a mandatory AHA CPR class (HeartCode BLS) hands-on skills practice and evaluation class.
We currently are unable to provide any scholarships, payment plans, or military discounts.
You may need to update certain immunizations in order to qualify for the clinical rotation (see PREREQUISITES above.) We are unable to provide immunizations for the class.
We use a hybrid CPR certification class. If you need a CPR for BLS Provider certification, the cost of the online portion will be about $30, it is not included with the tuition. Also, see EMT CERTIFICATION PROCESS below for the cost and more information about the NREMT Certification exam.
Registration opens approximately 2 months prior to the start of class. We will email PDF files of our schedule, syllabus, and registration forms. Pre-registration is not available.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to take the National Registry of EMT’s (NREMT) Certification Exam. The Washington State Department of Health requires an NREMT Certification for initial State Certification. The cost is $80.00, payable online when you schedule an exam. For more information, go to http://nremt.org . To become a certified EMT in Washington State, you will need to pass the NREMT Certification Exam, then become affiliated (employed, volunteer, etc.) with a prehospital agency, who will sponsor your EMT Certification. The EMT course completion is valid for a total of 2 years. The certification examination (via NREMT) is valid for 12 months. If you do not gain Washington State Certification within 12 months of successful passing the certification exam, you will need to retake the exam. If you do not receive Washington EMT certification with 2 years of completing this EMT Course, you will need to complete another entire course.
If you are currently in the military or served in the past, and had EMS training, you may choose to have the Department of Health review your training and experience. It may count towards some of your training. If you have any questions, call the DOH directly at 360-236-4700. Thank you.
Until the Washington State certification process is completed and the official certification authorization issued, providing patient care is an unauthorized practice. Furthermore, there will be no indemnification from liability when responding on emergency responses with a licensed EMS agency, unless placed back in training status by the county MPD. If you have further questions regarding Washington State Certification, please call the Department of Health Customer Service Office at (360) 236-4700.
