    Job Title: Driver/Intern 

     

    EMPLOYEE STATUS:

    Regular: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8-9 hours per day (range 4am-9pm)

    $13.50 hourly/non-exempt position

    Benefits after 60 days of employment

    Take Home Company Vehicle Provided

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

     

    This position is a internship position with the option of becoming a fulltime employee after six months.

    Applicants must be a part of the Jobs Plus program with the state.

     

    Education: High School Graduate or equivalent preferred but not required.

    Age: All ComTrans employees must be at least 18 years old, all driving positions are required to be at least 21 years old as required by insurance. Exceptions may be made for non-driving positions on a case-by-case basis and dependent upon the position and its responsibilities.

     

    Licensing/Registration/Certification:

    q Valid OR driver’s license.

    q Approved by our insurance company as a driver.

     

    Company Provided Training/Certifications

    q Have or be able to obtain a level one fingerprint clearance card

    q First Aid/CPR

    q Crisis Prevention and Intervention.

    q Complete ComTrans Driver Certification Training Program.

     

    Additional Certifications: Some positions at ComTrans require additional certifications when operating vehicles with a design capacity for 8 or more passengers.

    q Certified through Comtrans to drive vehicles with a design of 8 or more passengers..

    q Able to pass a Department of Transportation physical exam initially and upon expiration.

    q Complete ComTrans certification program to operate a wheelchair vehicle

     

     

    Physical Requirements:

    q Ability to stand, climb stairs/steps, escort clients to and from destination, kneel, crouch, reach and extend arms.

    q Able to grasp objects such as steering wheel, car seats, etc

    q Sit in a driving or sitting position from 1 to up to 12 hours.

    q Able to get in and out of vehicles multiple times per day

    q Assisting students/clients in and out of the vehicles multiple times each day.

    q Able to bend, kneel and secure wheelchairs and clients multiple times per day.

    q Ability to lift or move at least 40 pounds

    q Ability to carry, lift and install child seats into vehicles and secure children into child seats.

    q When required, able to pass a Department of Transportation physical exam initially and upon expiration.

    q Able to perform vehicle pre and post trip inspections daily and on any vehicle

    q Able to work in a variety of environments; inside and outside, able to tolerate a variety of climate changes and conditions

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to, the following:

    q Document transportation issues using professional documentation practices.

    q Knowledgeable on the Routine Drivers operation and Guide, including the use of vehicles, routing, mapping and car seat use.

    q Understand and communicate ComTrans policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook.

    q Ensure the safety of students/clients at all times.

    q Knowledgeable in the use of appropriate child seats

    q Escort all students/clients in to destination sites.

    q Practice defensive driving at all times.

    q Communicate all issues to the program manager immediately.

    q Conduct vehicle check prior to start of day.

    q Maintain a safe work environment.

    q Use appropriate car seats as needed and required by law.

    q Communicate with dispatch, supervisors, and managers regarding all incidents/accidents.

    q Ensure vehicle clean at all times.

    q Able to plan route for next day based on manifest provided

    q Ensure vehicle assigned have required supplies (maps, driving directions, vehicle driver identification, fire extinguisher, car seats as needed)

    q Ensure all paperwork is completed; accurate and turned in at the end of each shift.

    q Other duties as assigned.

    Routine School Driver-Specific

    q Document transportation issues using professional documentation practices.

    q Knowledgeable on the Routine Drivers operation and Guide, including the use of vehicles, routing, mapping and car seat use.

    q Understand and communicate ComTrans policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook.

    q Ensure the safety of students/clients at all times.

    q Knowledgeable in the use of appropriate child seats

    q Escort all students in to destination sites.

    q Practice defensive driving at all times.

    q Communicate all issues to the program manager immediately.

    q Conduct vehicle check prior to start of day.

    q Maintain a safe work environment.

    q Use appropriate car seats as needed and required by law.

    q Communicate with dispatch, supervisors, and managers regarding all incidents/accidents.

    q Ensure vehicle clean at all times.

    q Follow school district guidelines when transporting students including pick up and drop off

    q Work closely and effectively with all schools and districts

    q If assigned an attendant, ensure duties are being performed as intended.

    q Attend initial and yearly mandatory school transport training.

    q Able to plan route for next day based on manifest provided

    q Ensure vehicle assigned have required supplies (maps, driving directions, vehicle driver identification, fire extinguisher, car seats as needed)

    q Ensure all paperwork is completed; accurate and turned in at the end of each shift.

     

    Lot Attendant Duties:

     

    The responsibilities of this position include however are not limited to the following:

     

    Maintain the parking lot by picking up trash, emptying trash and sweeping the grounds.

    Ensure company vehicles are cleaned and according to identified schedule by Maintenance Lead or Manager. This includes washing the exterior, windows, tires and rims. Interior of the vehicle needs to be vacuumed, dashboard, doors, mirror, windows cleaned.

    Check all vehicle cameras to ensure working properly and as designed when required

    Maintain needed supplies and order through Maintenance Lead as needed and ensure adequate supplies are stocked.

    Provide light maintenance on vehicles as requested by Maintenance Lead. Light maintenance includes topping off fluids (oil, window cleaner, brake and transmission fluids).

    Back-up Maintenance Lead as needed.

     

    Other duties as requested by Program Manager including some office duties.
