    Job Description

    Job Title: Lead Mechanic

    Reports To: Fleet Manager

    Department: Fleet

    Location: Operations

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt





    Assists Fleet Maintenance Manager in daily operation of Fleet Maintenance Facility while performing regular duties of a front line mechanic.



    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Performs all Front Line Mechanic maintenance activities assigned by Fleet Manager.

     Rotates on-call duties with Fleet Manager.

     Assists Fleet Manager in employee scheduling and ensuring the quality of work performed meets department standards and work is completed as scheduled.

     Assumes the operational duties of the Fleet Manager in his/her absence.

     Provides input to Fleet Manager for employee evaluation and progress report purposes.

     Assists Fleet Manager in ensuring cost effectiveness of all fleet maintenance programs.

     Assists Fleet Manager in development of new maintenance programs.

     Assists Fleet Manager in maintaining a safe and clean work environment.

     Assists Fleet Manager in training technicians.

     Assists Fleet Manager in maintaining required vehicle records. This may include data entry, parts ordering, etc.

     Responds to vehicle breakdowns in the field when requested.

     Assists other Mechanics as needed.

     Operates company vehicles in accordance with company policy and safe practices.

     Completes all required paperwork neatly, correctly and on time.

     Uses parts computer to locate needed parts and verify correct application.

     Attends meetings, classes, training, etc., as directed by Fleet Manager.

     Performs all other duties as requested by Fleet Maintenance Manager.

     Ensures Shop Operates in compliance with AMR Fleet Policy and Procedures

     Sets repair priorities to meet daily demands.

     Mentor and train journey mechanics.

     Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

     Adherence to and compliance with information systems security is everyone’s responsibility. It is the responsibility of every computer user to: Know and follow

    Information Systems security policies and procedures. Attend Information Systems security training, when offered. Report information systems security problems


    Principal Accountabilities:

    Vehicles repaired efficiently and maintained in accordance to AMR Policy and Procedures and local EMS standards.

    Quickly respond, diagnose and repair vehicles during road call situations.

     Maintain safe and clean work area.

     Paperwork complete and neat.

     Accurately account for all parts and materials.

     Excellent customer service skills.

     Maintain good working relationship with all personnel and professional conduct with outside contacts.


    Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Perform other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:


    Thorough knowledge of current AMR ambulance fleet.

     Thorough knowledge of AMR Fleet Maintenance Policy and Procedures.

     AA Degree Automotive / Diesel Technology or 10 years foreman / lead experience.

     5 ASE Certifications (Truck or Automotive series). Brake and Steering / Suspension mandatory.

     MACS AC Certification or equivalent ASE Certification.



    Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

     Ability to work independently and as a team member.

     Ability to employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas.

     Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions on memos, letters and various documents and repair manuals.

     Ability to perform the essential job functions.

     Regular and predictable attendance.

     Automotive skills necessary to perform maintenance and repairs on company vehicles.

     Must have a full set of personal tools.

     Must have a current valid driver’s license.

    4 consecutive satisfactory yearly performance appraisals
